Gala Store Launches

Untitled Gala Store Launches

The Gala Store is a new online games shop brought to you by the same people who created Indie Gala, a website where users can pay what they want for a package of indie titles, with sales occurring every couple of weeks. This format has seen a lot of success in other sites such as The Humble Bundle or the Indie Royale, however The Indie Gala separates itself by offering many more post-sale exclusives, such as soundtracks or downloadable content. The success of this format is undeniable, with these sorts of sales often making hundreds of thousands of dollars for indie developers and charities.

The Gala Store has launched with a decent portfolio of games, the majority being indie games. Unfortunately, popular indie titles such as Braid are missing for the time being, however the site is hoping to have over 1000+ titles before the end of the year, so it can be assumed that if the site gains momentum, publishers will flock to it. It is also mentioned in the FAQ section that they plan to bring android games and soundtracks to the store, as well as offering more non-steam reliant downloads in the future.

The site also allows users to use their “Gala points”, a reward system earned through the Indie Gala site, towards purchases. Overall, this store-format could prove very popular in the indie scene, with the possibility of success already proven by Indie-mod based platform Desura.
