Steam Summer Sale 2012 Goes Live: Brace Your Wallet
The Steam Summer Sale 2012 has finally arrived! This yearly event is a huge calender mark for any PC gamers who use Steam, as it offers some of the best deals on PC games that can be found anywhere. During the Summer Sale, most games on the Steam platform have some sort of discount, ranging from 10% to as high as 95%, with daily deals on specific games and packs. The 2012 sale runs from July 12- July 22, and the homepage can be found HERE.
This year, Valve have mixed up the savings with new ‘Flash Savings’, which occur every 8 hours along with community-vote based discounts that will only be applied if they get the most votes out of a certain selection. This encourages community members to vote for the games that they want to see on sale, however, with 4 million concurrent users at the time of writing, competition for the voting may be high.
Sadly the achievements on the main page and associated rewards are missing this year, however this has become a tradition for the Christmas Sale, so we may see this feature return relatively soon.
Highlights from the first day of sales include:
- Shogun: Total War – franchise 75% off
- Portal 2 – 75% off
- Crusader Kings II – 75% off
- Legend of Grimrock – 60% off
As well as an indie pack featuring Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Cave Story +, Edge, Lone Survivor and The Baconing in a bundle for 75% off. (Prices and discounts may vary by region).
Also of note are the publisher packs, which offer a publisher’s entire catalogue for a heavily discounted price (compared to purchasing each game separately). In the past these packs have seen moderate success since they still have a high price tag, but some may pay that little bit extra for the swarm of games you receive.
